A Guide to Protected Structures

This is a simple guide to understanding the protection of structures of special interest under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Acts, 2000-2012. The guide is intended as a practical guide. It is not a definitive legal interpretation of planning law. For further information, please consult the Council's Conservation Officer.

Proposed additions to RPS

As part of the review of the Development Plans an evaluation was carried out of buildings and features within the county and city of Kilkenny with potential heritage value. Buildings and features of potential heritage value may be considered worthy of protection and may then be added to the Record of Protected Structures which is maintained by the Local Authority. The buildings in the list below are considered to be worthy of protection by the Local Authority.
