Denis Malone on the meeting format, video transcript

Hello my name is Denis Malone, I’m Senior Planner with Kilkenny Local Authorities and I’m here to give you some information in relation to the forthcoming public meetings associated with the review of the Kilkenny City and County Development Plans.  We are holding a total of seven public meetings throughout the county starting on the 19th June in the Parade Tower in Kilkenny City with the last meeting in Graiguenamanagh on the 1st August.  Details of the locations, dates and times are to be found on our dedicated website:

The purpose of the meetings is to consult with the citizens of the county in the formulation of new City and County Development Plans.  In addition to seeking general views, each meeting will have a particular topic to focus on for discussion.

For example, in Kilkenny on the 19th June the main topic for discussion will be pedestrianisation and Smarter Travel with Graiguenamanagh covering Renewable Energies on the 1st August. Again see our dedicated web site for details of the other topics that will be covered at the additional meetings.

All meetings will have the same format which will be a short presentation by a member of the planning team giving an introduction to the Development Plan process and how to get involved and make a submission.  The second presentation will focus on the chosen theme for the night.  This presentation will set the scene for the topic giving:

  • An overview of  the theme
  • The issues facing the planning authority and the
  • Topics to be addressed by the meeting.

Following the two presentations, the meeting will break into a number of working groups each of which will be facilitated by a member of the team on the night.  The working groups will discuss the issues from the presentations and will be expected to come back to the general meeting with a set of policies/questions/problems and other issues. Following that there will be a chance for an open questions and answer session.

After all the hard work, tea and biscuits will provided as light refreshment.

We want to encourage people to attend at least one of the public meetings, take part in the process and make your voice heard.
